Harsimrat Kaur Badal: News
Harsimrat Kaur Badal is a political leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha from Bathinda, and the daughter-in-law of former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. She has done a diploma in Textile Design and is a businesswoman apart from being a politician. She began her political journey with a win in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections from the Bathinda constituency against Indian National Congress’s (INC) Raninder Singh. She retained the seat in the 2014 and 2019 General Elections. She has worked on many social projects like “Nanhi Chhan," a movement to save the girl child. When the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in 2014, Badal was appointed as Minister for Food Processing Industries. She has served as a member on the Committee of Estimates; Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment; Standing Committee on Health & Welfare; and Standing Committee on Food & Public Distribution. In September 2020, Kaur resigned from the Modi cabinet after SAD broke off from the NDA in protest over the new farm laws.
